Simon Fraser portrait (Toronto Public Library Special Collections, JRR 2750)

Fraser, Simon (1776-1862). Journal of a Voyage from the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean Performed in the Year 1808 by Simon Fraser.

Simon Fraser, a fur trader and explorer employed by the Montreal-based Northwest Company, charted much of what is now British Columbia. Identified as the best-documented episode in Fraser's career, this first-hand narrative of his explorations describes the physical hardships of the voyage, the landscapes through which he travelled and his relationships with the First Nations he encountered.
